The films bring Rowling's words to life however, as is nearly always the case in adapting work of one form to another, the transitions can be less than smooth. The Harry Potter films, which started with the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in the year 2001, depict the events covered in the books in a more filmic fashion. With six of the seven books written, and five films finished (four of them released), the Harry Potter franchise has a lot to offer scholars interested in the how-to's and the results of adapting books to film. More recently, entire book series have been adapted, such as the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the still in progress Harry Potter series. Films have also been adapted from several other forms such as television shows, theatrical plays and even other movies. Harry Potter and the Adaptation from Novel to Filmįor as long as people have been making movies, people have been making movies based on books.
